17 Year Old Car Insurance

17 year old car insurance must be purchased for a youngster who is raring to get behind the wheel of a car,

but being under the age of 21 they are not legally old enough to sign a contract or drink alcohol (thank goodness!)
Very often the cheapest and best way to obtain 17 year old car insurance is to add the young driver to a parent’s or guardian’s auto insurance policy. It gives the insurance company an idea that perhaps they trust the driver, otherwise the 17 year old car insurance is going to be a big expense.

Years ago, 17 year olds’ cars were often big old bangers, as back then larger cars were considered the safest – although they often were not. They caused more damage, had huge engines and seat belts were not required to be worn by law, as they are now.

Today 17 year old car insurance can be reduced by making sure they drive a vehicle that is equipped with as many safety aspects as possible, including day time running lights, anti-lock brakes, anti-theft devices and air bags. If the vehicle has yet to be purchased, look specifically for all the safety features you can get, in a smaller or compact car with an engine that will not encourage the driver to go over the speed limit. A speeding ticket and an accident at age 17 can make your car insurance very expensive for years afterwards.

17 year old car insurance can also be reduced if the teen has maintained good grades at school, usually a B average; this also proves he is serious and reasonably sensible when it comes to driving a car. Encourage the teen to take all the safe drivers courses your state offers, as these can also bring down the costs of 17 year old car insurance.
