When the company sent me yet another grossly inflated bill for the next year’s premium I decided enough was enough. I called an agent, told them the coverage I had and she told me in not so many words that I was getting ripped off. To top it all, my husband’s SUV had recently flipped over for no reason at all – you probably remember that from the news back then – and they had made no attempt at good customer service. Initially my car insurance company had told me that they would be writing the vehicle off, so we waited five months for a check that never appeared. After five months of daily calls to my insurance company, they decided they were going to have the car repaired! I should have got a lawyer. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! After over six months we got our vehicle back and I changed my car insurance company pronto.
I had been paying double what I should have been paying, and got the worst customer care. My car insurance company now charges me exactly half of what that other company was charging me all those years ago. That insurance company got into serious financial trouble recently and all I can say is good, they deserved it!
I use a friendly local agent for all my car insurance and property insurance needs. She’s on the ball, which obviously I wasn’t at the time. She doesn’t have to ask me all my details every time I see her, knows which discounts my husband and I are entitled to and doesn’t try to offer me add-on products that she knows we don’t need. I wouldn’t trust my car insurance needs to anyone else.
